Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B-
ValueB+ NeedC TradesB- FutureB-
The Vikings robbed the room for Mathews Jr.. Final grade: B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Jermaine Mathews Jr. at the Round 6 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The Harris reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Will Echoles
In the 30th overall pick they get a wrecking ball inside, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jadan Baugh
Jadan Baugh in the 62nd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick78 Rnd3 Reed Harris
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Reed Harris well ahead of where he belonged. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick94 Rnd3 Greg Johnson
Greg Johnson at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick156 Rnd5 Corey Myrick
Corey Myrick in slot 156 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick163 Rnd5 Drake Lindsey
Drake Lindsey in Round 5, Pick 26 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick167 Rnd5 Drayk Bowen
Nothing to complain about; Drayk Bowen went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick193 Rnd6 Xavier Lucas
Taking Xavier Lucas in pick 193 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick204 Rnd6 King Mack
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing King Mack in the Round 6 slot. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jermaine Mathews Jr. in the 214th pick, plain and simple. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick231 Rnd7 Payton Pierce
Value with a capital V on Payton Pierce in the 231st overall pick, a genuine coup. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
