Good, not great, for the Vikings: B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Vikings reached some 45 spots for Lawson Luckie, and value like that does not grow back.

Landing Pieper that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Bolden pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 KJ Bolden
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, KJ Bolden adds a safety and leaves quarterback untouched.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jadan Baugh
The board fumbled Jadan Baugh all the way to Round 2, Pick 30, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick77 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper in pick 77 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick94 Rnd3 Devan Thompkins
Devan Thompkins in the 94th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick157 Rnd5 Isaiah Sategna III
This one needs a full-page explanation: Isaiah Sategna III in the 157th overall pick, miles early. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick164 Rnd5 Elijah Paige
They went early on Elijah Paige in No. 164, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick168 Rnd5 Lawson Luckie
They reached a country mile for Lawson Luckie at Round 5, Pick 30, and the board is aghast. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick190 Rnd6 James Smith
They talked themselves into James Smith at No. 190, and the board did not agree. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick202 Rnd6 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Somehow Jermaine Mathews Jr. was still sitting there in the 202nd pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick212 Rnd6 King Mack
King Mack in pick No. 212 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick230 Rnd7 Payton Pierce
Payton Pierce at pick 230 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
