Draft Grade — Vikings

The Vikings let Myrick fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

When a board-topper like Corey Myrick slides to slot 170, you do not overthink it, and the Vikings did not. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

The Vikings indulged a want in Johnson while a need in quarterback and edge rusher stayed open. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Will Echoles
In pick No. 32 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, outstanding value to boot.
Pick64 Rnd2 Tae Johnson
A curious use of Round 2, Pick 32. Quarterback and edge rusher needed the pick; a safety in Tae Johnson did not.
Pick76 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Kade Pieper in No. 76, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick96 Rnd3 Rasheem Biles
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Rasheem Biles at linebacker with quarterback and edge rusher open.
Pick159 Rnd5 Justin Evans
Nice patience on Justin Evans, who had no business lasting to the 159th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick164 Rnd5 Desmeal Leigh
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Desmeal Leigh. The roster fit checks out.
Pick170 Rnd5 Corey Myrick
You do not let a safety like Corey Myrick reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick188 Rnd6 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jermaine Mathews Jr. at the 188th pick is the proof. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick200 Rnd6 Justice Haynes
A reach for Justice Haynes in pick 200; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick212 Rnd6 Eugene Wilson III
Eugene Wilson III in the 212th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick237 Rnd7 Andrew Rappleyea
They paid sticker price for Andrew Rappleyea in pick No. 237, and that is fine. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
