Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B-
ValueB NeedC+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Vikings answered their biggest question with Mensah. Grade: B-.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Darian Mensah is the Vikings' quarterback, full stop.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Pieper. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Reaching for Brahmer left real value on the table behind him.

They went 3 of 4 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Darian Mensah
In No. 30 they get their quarterback of the future, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jadan Baugh
Jadan Baugh in pick 62 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick79 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
They robbed the room for Kade Pieper here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick94 Rnd3 Nyck Harbor
A conviction pick on Nyck Harbor at the 94th pick that the board grades a round light. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick158 Rnd5 Koi Perich
Koi Perich at the 158th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick164 Rnd5 Elijah Paige
Fair-plus on Elijah Paige, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick167 Rnd5 Nicholas Rodriguez
Taking Nicholas Rodriguez in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick181 Rnd5 Braelin Moore
A quiet steal in pick No. 181: Braelin Moore for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
Pick188 Rnd6 Benjamin Brahmer
They went early on Benjamin Brahmer in the 188th pick, and the value did not follow. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick202 Rnd6 King Mack
You do not let a safety like King Mack reach No. 202 and blink. They did not. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick230 Rnd7 Maraad Watson
They did well to land Maraad Watson in pick No. 230, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
