Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
C+
ValueD-
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Sayin is the plan now, and the Browns grade out a C+. There is reaching, and then there is Trey Leckner at No. 39. The Browns jumped the board by 221 and dared it to prove them wrong. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Miller. So much rides on Julian Sayin that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Julian Sayin
In the 6th pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick24
Rnd1
Brandon Inniss
In pick 24 they get a go-to option on the outside, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Trey Leckner
They talked themselves into Trey Leckner at the 39th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Pick70
Rnd3
Samson Okunlola
Samson Okunlola in pick No. 70 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Pick107
Rnd4
Quay'sheed Scott
Quay'sheed Scott in slot 107 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139
Rnd5
Aaron Flowers
A wild overpay on Aaron Flowers in Round 5, Pick 1, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick144
Rnd5
Princewill Umanmielen
The board fumbled Princewill Umanmielen all the way to slot 144, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jayden Maiava
They will replay Jayden Maiava at pick No. 147 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick204
Rnd6
Kyle Altuner
Kyle Altuner at Round 6, Pick 25 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick248
Rnd7
Omarion Miller
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 248 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
