Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B
ValueB- NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
The Dolphins left with their quarterback, and a B to match.

Start where it matters. The Dolphins took Darian Mensah to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.

They banked enough surplus on Johnson to cover a lot of smaller sins. The cost of the Greene III reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Darian Mensah
In the 3rd pick they get a passer to set the clock by. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Chris Cole
Nothing to complain about; Chris Cole went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick65 Rnd3 Princewill Umanmielen
Princewill Umanmielen in slot 65 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick104 Rnd4 Greg Johnson
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Greg Johnson in No. 104, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick140 Rnd5 Earl Little Jr.
A quiet steal in pick 140: Earl Little Jr. for less than the market said. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick154 Rnd5 Xavier Lucas
They went early on Xavier Lucas in the 154th overall pick, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick180 Rnd6 Earnest Greene III
A big swing on Earnest Greene III at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jaden Platt
Jaden Platt at pick No. 247 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick255 Rnd7 Jordan Faison
Jordan Faison at the 255th overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
