Jaydog17 DRAFTING FOR THEDolphins
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Dolphins won the night they stopped Johnson from sliding. Grade: B. When a board-topper like Jamari Johnson slides to the 75th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Dolphins did not. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The Echols reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Damon Wilson II
In the 11th pick they get a double-digit-sack hope. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Bryant Wesco Jr.
Bryant Wesco Jr. in the Round 2 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jamari Johnson
Taking Jamari Johnson in pick No. 75 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick87
Rnd3
Sammy Brown
They will replay Sammy Brown at the 87th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Pick90
Rnd3
Nico Iamaleava
Nico Iamaleava at slot 90 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick111
Rnd4
Kewan Lacy
Kewan Lacy in No. 111 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick149
Rnd5
Coen Echols
They talked themselves into Coen Echols at pick 149, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick227
Rnd7
LJ McCray
LJ McCray at Round 7, Pick 11 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
