Jaydog17 DRAFTING FOR THEBrowns
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Carr is the plan now, and the Browns grade out a B-. Start where it matters. The Browns took CJ Carr to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Nwaneri has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. However the rest shakes out, Metcalf at that price is a win they earned. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
CJ Carr
CJ Carr in the Round 1 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick24
Rnd1
PJ Williams
In slot 24 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Yhonzae Pierre
A straight-up fair deal on Yhonzae Pierre at No. 39, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick70
Rnd3
Williams Nwaneri
Williams Nwaneri at the 70th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick107
Rnd4
Taylor Wein
They left a pile of value on the table to take Taylor Wein this early at the 107th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick139
Rnd5
Adon Shuler
Somehow Adon Shuler was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 1, and they pounced on premier safety value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick144
Rnd5
Xavier Lucas
No edge and no loss on Xavier Lucas in pick No. 144; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick147
Rnd5
Da'Shawn Womack
A big swing on Da'Shawn Womack at pick 147, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick204
Rnd6
Eugene Wilson III
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Eugene Wilson III at pick No. 204. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick248
Rnd7
TJ Metcalf
TJ Metcalf at the 248th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
