Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall
C-
ValueF
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Ravens: C-. The Ravens looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jambres Dubar at the 45th pick regardless, 278 picks early. For now it grades a C-, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Rappleyea. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Brandon Baker
In the 14th pick they get a long-term starter on the line, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jambres Dubar
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jambres Dubar well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
Pick80
Rnd3
Donovan Jones
Donovan Jones in Round 3, Pick 16 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick115
Rnd4
Justin Evans
Justin Evans at the 115th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick152
Rnd5
Dylan Raiola
They barely believed it either: Dylan Raiola still on the board at slot 152. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick160
Rnd5
Dylan Braithwaite
This one needs a full-page explanation: Dylan Braithwaite in No. 160, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick172
Rnd5
Ashton Hampton
They will replay Ashton Hampton at the 172nd pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick173
Rnd5
Rod Moore
They reached a country mile for Rod Moore at pick No. 173, and the board is aghast. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick249
Rnd7
Andrew Rappleyea
Somehow Andrew Rappleyea was still sitting there in the 249th overall pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick252
Rnd7
Gavin Sawchuk
A big swing on Gavin Sawchuk at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
