Draft Grade — Rams
Overall
C-
ValueF
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A franchise passer in Johnson headlines a C- weekend for the Rams. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Rams did exactly that with Avery Johnson in the 13th overall pick. A weekend of give and take that grades a C-.
On value alone, Lacy makes the weekend a net positive. Avery Johnson is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
If Avery Johnson and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Avery Johnson
In the 13th pick they get a franchise quarterback, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
Pick29
Rnd1
Justice Haynes
In the Round 1 slot they get a centerpiece for the ground game, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick61
Rnd2
Peyton Bowen
Peyton Bowen in the 61st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick93
Rnd3
Evan Stewart
They left a pile of value on the table to take Evan Stewart this early at pick 93. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick167
Rnd5
Bradyn Joiner
They reached a country mile for Bradyn Joiner at slot 167, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick205
Rnd6
Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III at No. 205 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick208
Rnd6
Kewan Lacy
Somehow Kewan Lacy was still sitting there in the 208th overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick232
Rnd7
Jordan Castell
Jordan Castell at pick No. 232 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick250
Rnd7
Kayin Lee
Steal is underselling it; Kayin Lee at slot 250 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick256
Rnd7
Quintrevion Wisner
Quintrevion Wisner in the 256th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
