Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Steelers bled value on every deal, hence the D-.

The Steelers went off the board in a big way for Rod Moore, 240 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

Hoover at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Ellis Robinson IV
In pick 21 they get a ballhawk on the outside. A real need, handled.
Pick53 Rnd2 CJ Carr
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, CJ Carr in slot 53, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick72 Rnd3 Samson Okunlola
A quiet steal in pick No. 72: Samson Okunlola for less than the market said. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick76 Rnd3 Chris Cole
Chris Cole in the 76th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick85 Rnd3 Rod Moore
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Rod Moore. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick99 Rnd3 Marcus Neal Jr.
Good price on Marcus Neal Jr. in the 99th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick121 Rnd4 DeSean Bishop
Value said wait; DeSean Bishop in Round 4, Pick 21 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick135 Rnd4 Duce Robinson
Duce Robinson at the 135th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick159 Rnd5 Ashton Hampton
Somehow Ashton Hampton was still sitting there in the 159th pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick213 Rnd6 Tao Johnson
The board fumbled Tao Johnson all the way to No. 213, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick214 Rnd6 Josh Hoover
Steal is underselling it; Josh Hoover at pick 214 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick224 Rnd7 Drew Bobo
Drew Bobo in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick237 Rnd7 Jaleel Johnson
They read the board right and Jaleel Johnson was the payoff at slot 237. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
