FutureA
The Raiders bet the future on Weigman. The board says D+. The Raiders put a flag in the ground for Conner Weigman, 220 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
That Foley pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They have staked the next five years on Conner Weigman, which is the only story that really matters here.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Conner Weigman
In pick 9 they get their guy under center for the next decade, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Bryant Wesco Jr.
A wild overpay on Bryant Wesco Jr. in the 36th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick40
Rnd2
Zabien Brown
Zabien Brown at the 40th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick67
Rnd3
Tony Rojas
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tony Rojas. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick102
Rnd4
Adepoju Adebawore
A big swing on Adepoju Adebawore at the Round 4 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick117
Rnd4
Boubacar Traore
They barely believed it either: Boubacar Traore still on the board at No. 117. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick134
Rnd4
Solomon Tuliaupupu
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Solomon Tuliaupupu in pick 134, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick174
Rnd5
Isaiah Augustave
Isaiah Augustave in pick No. 174 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick180
Rnd6
Kyle Altuner
Kyle Altuner in slot 180 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick183
Rnd6
Noah Carter
A real head-scratcher, Noah Carter in No. 183 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick187
Rnd6
Cam Calhoun
Cam Calhoun at the 187th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick219
Rnd7
Brody Foley
Brody Foley at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
