Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D-
ValueB-

TradesF
FutureB-
The Bears got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Derrick Moore at the 68th overall pick is 32 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
The Smith pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at running back and quarterback. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Reese.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, and a steal at that.
Pick41
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
By-the-book stuff, Dillon Thieneman at Round 2, Pick 9 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick54
Rnd2
Lee Hunter
They liked Lee Hunter enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 54. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick57
Rnd2
Caleb Tiernan
They paid sticker price for Caleb Tiernan in the 57th pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick68
Rnd3
Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore in pick 68 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick72
Rnd3
Josiah Trotter
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Josiah Trotter at pick No. 72 is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick89
Rnd3
Genesis Smith
A surprising call. With running back and quarterback still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on Genesis Smith, a safety they were not short of.
Pick98
Rnd3
Caden Curry
Caden Curry at the 98th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick110
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zachariah Branch. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick129
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
A wild overpay on Davison Igbinosun in Round 4, Pick 29, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick163
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
Fair-plus on Aamil Wagner, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick187
Rnd6
Miles Kitselman
Nothing to complain about; Miles Kitselman went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
