When the story of this class is written, it opens with Patrick Payton at Round 5, Pick 18, a reach of 43 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. Getting Reese where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
