Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Commanders. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Commanders spent slot 71 on Jaishawn Barham, a name the board had a full 42 spots lower.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The back end got a real overhaul.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the Round 1 slot they get a centerfielder for the defense. Need was not the driver here.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jaishawn Barham
Jaishawn Barham in pick 71 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick145
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
They jumped the gun on Davison Igbinosun, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick185
Rnd6
Dane Key
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dane Key this early at slot 185. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick196
Rnd6
Eric McAlister
Nothing to complain about; Eric McAlister went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick223
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 223rd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
