Miller should have been long gone. The Packers pounced, and earned a B-. The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Christen Miller, pick 84, roughly 25 picks past where he belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Pavia has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick52
Rnd2
Malachi Lawrence
They took Malachi Lawrence at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick84
Rnd3
Christen Miller
Christen Miller in pick No. 84 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick120
Rnd4
Julian Neal
Julian Neal at slot 120 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick153
Rnd5
Charles Demmings
Charles Demmings in Round 5, Pick 13 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick160
Rnd5
Kaytron Allen
Kaytron Allen in the 160th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick207
Rnd6
Red Murdock
They read the board right and Red Murdock was the payoff at the 207th overall pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick236
Rnd7
Diego Pavia
They liked Diego Pavia enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 236. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick252
Rnd7
Robert Henry Jr.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Robert Henry Jr.. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick255
Rnd7
Alan Herron
Alan Herron in pick 255 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
