Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesC FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Browns: B-.

The Browns torched the value chart for Will Kacmarek, taking him 66 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Slaughter. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate at Round 1, Pick 13 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick24 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
By-the-book stuff, Olaivavega Ioane at No. 24 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick29 Rnd1 Monroe Freeling
In slot 29 they get an anchor for the offensive line, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick70 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
The board fumbled Jake Slaughter all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Pick93 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. at the 93rd pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick107 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore at the 107th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick139 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
They liked Tanner Koziol enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 139. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick144 Rnd5 Beau Stephens
They paid sticker price for Beau Stephens in slot 144, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick147 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in pick No. 147 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick167 Rnd5 Red Murdock
They reached into another round for Red Murdock, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick204 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in Round 6, Pick 25 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick248 Rnd7 Will Kacmarek
Will Kacmarek at the 248th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
