Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesC FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Browns a B-.

There is reaching, and then there is Will Kacmarek at the 248th pick. The Browns jumped the board by 66 and dared it to prove them wrong. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That Reese pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
Nothing to complain about; Carnell Tate went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick24 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, and a steal at that.
Pick29 Rnd1 Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling in Round 1, Pick 29 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick70 Rnd3 Gennings Dunker
Gennings Dunker in the 70th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick93 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Value with a capital V on Omar Cooper Jr. in pick 93, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick107 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
They paid sticker price for Jalon Kilgore in slot 107, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick139 Rnd5 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Good price on Ar'maj Reed-Adams in slot 139, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick144 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
A premium they did not need to pay, Tanner Koziol a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
Pick147 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
They paid up for Davison Igbinosun at pick No. 147 when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick167 Rnd5 Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan at pick 167 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick204 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick248 Rnd7 Will Kacmarek
Will Kacmarek in No. 248 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
