Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Browns: C+. The Blake Miller selection is the head-turner. The Browns reached 48 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick29
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane at the 29th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick39
Rnd2
Austin Barber
They talked themselves into Austin Barber at the 39th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick61
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dillon Thieneman at slot 61. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick70
Rnd3
Blake Miller
Value said wait; Blake Miller in No. 70 says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick93
Rnd3
Jack Endries
By-the-book stuff, Jack Endries at Round 3, Pick 29 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick139
Rnd5
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams slipping to pick No. 139 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick144
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick147
Rnd5
Ted Hurst
Ted Hurst at the 147th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick204
Rnd6
PJ Williams
They reached a country mile for PJ Williams at No. 204, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick248
Rnd7
Jamari Lyons
Jamari Lyons in Round 7, Pick 32 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
