Draft Grade — Browns
Overall C+
ValueC NeedB TradesC- FutureB-
The jury is out on the Browns. For now, C+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Browns did exactly that with Jamari Lyons in slot 204.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

So much rides on Carnell Tate that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In slot 13 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick29 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
In pick No. 29 they get protection for the quarterback, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick39 Rnd2 Austin Barber
Austin Barber at Round 2, Pick 7 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick61 Rnd2 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the 61st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick70 Rnd3 Blake Miller
Blake Miller in No. 70 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick93 Rnd3 Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge in pick 93 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick139 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
A reach for Davison Igbinosun in pick 139; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick144 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol at Round 5, Pick 6 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick147 Rnd5 Pat Coogan
They reached into another round for Pat Coogan, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick204 Rnd6 Jamari Lyons
Jamari Lyons at the 204th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick248 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
They reached a country mile for Eric Gentry at the 248th overall pick, and the board is aghast. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
