Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesC- FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Browns: B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Browns did exactly that with Jamari Lyons in the Round 6 slot.

That McNeil-Warren pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In No. 11 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick24 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Arvell Reese in pick 24. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick43 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
They did well to land Olaivavega Ioane in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick70 Rnd3 Monroe Freeling
They reached a country mile for Monroe Freeling at the 70th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick90 Rnd3 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in pick No. 90 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick107 Rnd4 Jack Endries
A slide stopped in slot 107, with Jack Endries worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick139 Rnd5 Max Iheanachor
They took Max Iheanachor at par in pick No. 139, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick144 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
No edge and no loss on Davison Igbinosun in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick147 Rnd5 Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan at the 147th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick204 Rnd6 Jamari Lyons
Jamari Lyons at pick 204 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Pick248 Rnd7 Roman Hemby
Roman Hemby in the 248th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
