Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB+ FutureC
Ott should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Jaydn Ott, the No. 123 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 159. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

They will need Carter to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Kadyn Proctor
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick52 Rnd2 CJ Allen
CJ Allen at pick 52 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick67 Rnd3 Daylen Everette
No edge and no loss on Daylen Everette in pick No. 67; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick120 Rnd4 Terrance Carter
They talked themselves into Terrance Carter at the 120th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick159 Rnd5 Jaydn Ott
Taking Jaydn Ott in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick233 Rnd7 Fernando Carmona
Fernando Carmona in No. 233 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
