The Bills cashed the board's mistake on Mondon Jr.: B.

When a board-topper like Smael Mondon Jr. slides to pick 172, you do not overthink it, and the Bills did not.

If Griffith pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with linebacker chief among the fixes.

Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
In slot 30 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick56 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
The board fumbled Jihaad Campbell all the way to pick No. 56, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick62 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 30, where Xavier Watts graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick107 Rnd4 Barrett Carter
Somehow Barrett Carter was still sitting there in No. 107, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick130 Rnd4 Oronde Gadsden II
A straight-up fair deal on Oronde Gadsden II at pick 130, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick169 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick172 Rnd5 Smael Mondon Jr.
Taking Smael Mondon Jr. in the 172nd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick175 Rnd5 Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at the 175th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick202 Rnd6 Jahvaree Ritzie
A big swing on Jahvaree Ritzie at No. 202, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick204 Rnd6 Thor Griffith
They talked themselves into Thor Griffith at slot 204, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
