Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall C+
ValueD+ NeedC+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Cowboys land in the muddy middle: C+.

There is reaching, and then there is De'Zhaun Stribling at the Round 5 slot. The Cowboys jumped the board by 65 and dared it to prove them wrong. A mixed bag that lands at C+.

Getting Halton where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. It is not that Thomas is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.

If Quincy Rhodes Jr. and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Quincy Rhodes Jr.
In pick No. 12 they get juice off the edge, a steep price for the projection. Need was not the driver here.
Pick24 Rnd1 R Mason Thomas
A curious use of the 24th pick. Cornerback, offensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; an edge rusher in R Mason Thomas did not.
Pick112 Rnd4 Kaytron Allen
They did well to land Kaytron Allen in slot 112, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick152 Rnd5 Derrick Moore
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Derrick Moore. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick177 Rnd5 De'Zhaun Stribling
Value said wait; De'Zhaun Stribling in the 177th overall pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick216 Rnd7 Rasheem Biles
The board had Rasheem Biles higher than No. 216, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick229 Rnd7 Gracen Halton
Taking Gracen Halton in pick 229 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
