Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C-
ValueF NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers answered their biggest question with Weigman. Grade: C-.

The Steelers went off the board in a big way for Hank Brown, 272 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

However the rest shakes out, Jacas at that price is a win they earned. Everything downstream of Conner Weigman depends on Conner Weigman, and the building knows it.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman and linebacker open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Conner Weigman
In the 20th overall pick they get the arm they will build around, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick52 Rnd2 Blake Miller
A real head-scratcher, Blake Miller in Round 2, Pick 20 is miles ahead of his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick77 Rnd3 Hykeem Williams
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Hykeem Williams well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick84 Rnd3 King Mack
King Mack at No. 84 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99 Rnd3 Brian Parker II
A want over a need in the Round 3 slot: Brian Parker II adds an offensive lineman while interior defensive lineman and linebacker keeps waiting.
Pick120 Rnd4 Cam Calhoun
They reached a country mile for Cam Calhoun at pick 120, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick134 Rnd4 Jack Endries
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Jack Endries in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick159 Rnd5 Hank Brown
A wild overpay on Hank Brown in slot 159, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick214 Rnd6 Barion Brown
A premium they did not need to pay, Barion Brown a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick215 Rnd6 Le'Veon Moss
Somehow Le'Veon Moss was still sitting there in the 215th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick224 Rnd7 Gabe Jacas
Steal is underselling it; Gabe Jacas at Round 7, Pick 8 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick236 Rnd7 Marquis Johnson
The board had cheaper options than Marquis Johnson at pick 236, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
