Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC- NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the 49ers: B-.

There is reaching, and then there is Luke Hasz at slot 91. The 49ers jumped the board by 214 and dared it to prove them wrong. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

They banked enough surplus on Tate to cover a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Francis Mauigoa
In the 26th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick57 Rnd2 Carson Beck
Carson Beck at No. 57 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick91 Rnd3 Luke Hasz
They left a pile of value on the table to take Luke Hasz this early at slot 91. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick126 Rnd4 Terry Moore
They paid sticker price for Terry Moore in the 126th pick, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick134 Rnd4 Roydell Williams
A real head-scratcher, Roydell Williams in pick 134 is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick139 Rnd4 Carnell Tate
Taking Carnell Tate in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick140 Rnd4 Xavier Chaplin
Xavier Chaplin at the 140th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
