Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
C

FutureC+
A mixed bag for the Dolphins, and a C to match. There is reaching, and then there is Jambres Dubar at No. 68. The Dolphins jumped the board by 425 and dared it to prove them wrong.
They banked enough surplus on Mateer to cover a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
If Caleb Downs and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the 4th overall pick they get a centerfielder for the defense at fair value. More want than need.
Pick37
Rnd2
Conner Weigman
Conner Weigman at No. 37 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick68
Rnd3
Jambres Dubar
Jambres Dubar at pick No. 68 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Pick75
Rnd3
Caleb Lomu
Circle this one: Caleb Lomu at the 75th pick is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick95
Rnd3
Gracen Halton
Gracen Halton at pick 95 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick105
Rnd4
Keon Wylie
Keon Wylie at slot 105 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick144
Rnd5
Dylan Braithwaite
A real head-scratcher, Dylan Braithwaite in the 144th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick176
Rnd5
John Mateer
John Mateer at the 176th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick218
Rnd7
Smith Snowden
They reached a country mile for Smith Snowden at Round 7, Pick 4, and the board is aghast. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
