Jax728 DRAFTING FOR THEJaguars
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall
C+
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Jaguars landed square in the muddy middle: C+. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Vincent Anthony Jr. at No. 124, a reach of 50 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
The Williams steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. It is not that Kamara is a bad player; it is that the Jaguars had louder needs to answer first.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick Analysis
Pick56
Rnd2
Anthony Lucas
They reached into another round for Anthony Lucas, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick81
Rnd3
Antonio Williams
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 17 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick88
Rnd3
Mikail Kamara
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 88th pick on Mikail Kamara with interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots unsolved.
Pick100
Rnd3
J.C. Davis
J.C. Davis at pick No. 100 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick124
Rnd4
Vincent Anthony Jr.
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots still to address, they spent pick 124 on Vincent Anthony Jr., an edge rusher they were not short of.
Pick162
Rnd5
Terion Stewart
Nothing to complain about; Terion Stewart went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick164
Rnd5
Red Murdock
Red Murdock in No. 164 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick233
Rnd7
Tony Grimes
A straight-up fair deal on Tony Grimes at the 233rd pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick245
Rnd7
Will Kacmarek
A reasonable price with a little left over, Will Kacmarek in the 245th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
