Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueB NeedB TradesD- FutureB-
The 49ers bled value on every deal, hence the C+.

The phones were a trap the 49ers kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.

Reaching for Nowakowski left real value on the table behind him. Hill Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

So much rides on Avieon Terrell that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Avieon Terrell
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick58 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. at slot 58 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick94 Rnd3 Sam Hecht
Sam Hecht is a better player than the 94th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick127 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
A tidy little value on Keylan Rutledge in pick No. 127, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick133 Rnd4 Mike Washington Jr.
They took Mike Washington Jr. at par in No. 133, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick138 Rnd4 Kage Casey
No drama and no debate, Kage Casey went about where he belonged in pick 138. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick145 Rnd5 Ted Hurst
They paid up for Ted Hurst at the 145th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick161 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
They did well to land Davison Igbinosun in Round 5, Pick 23, just ahead of his grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick168 Rnd5 Jalen Stroman
They robbed the room for Jalen Stroman here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick171 Rnd5 Kaleb Proctor
Kaleb Proctor in slot 171 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick246 Rnd7 Riley Nowakowski
A big swing on Riley Nowakowski at pick No. 246, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
