Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB- TradesA+ FutureA+
The Steelers turned the phones into found money: A-.

Whoever sat across the table from the Steelers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.

Harbor at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The Campbell pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. It is not that Jones is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first.

Bottom line, with Fernando Mendoza leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick45 Rnd2 Fernando Mendoza
They will replay Fernando Mendoza at slot 45 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick64 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in Round 2, Pick 32 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick76 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe at pick 76 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick78 Rnd3 Colton Hood
They let Colton Hood come to them and pounced at pick No. 78. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick87 Rnd3 Nyck Harbor
Nyck Harbor at the 87th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick99 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in the 99th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick102 Rnd4 Malachi Fields
They read the board right and Malachi Fields was the payoff at No. 102. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick103 Rnd4 Ian Strong
Ian Strong at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick122 Rnd4 Logan Jones
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Logan Jones while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots sat open.
Pick132 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
A tidy bit of business in pick 132, where Bryce Lance graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick133 Rnd4 Bray Hubbard
They paid sticker price for Bray Hubbard in the 133rd pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick139 Rnd4 Jadarian Price
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 139 with a little surplus value in Jadarian Price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick140 Rnd4 Eric Rivers
Eric Rivers at slot 140 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick146 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick148 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
They reached into another round for DJ Campbell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick150 Rnd5 Kage Casey
They took Kage Casey at par in the 150th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick163 Rnd5 Sammy Omosigho
They barely believed it either: Sammy Omosigho still on the board at Round 5, Pick 23. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick200 Rnd6 Bud Clark
Bud Clark in pick No. 200 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick212 Rnd6 Dane Key
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dane Key at slot 212 is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick213 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
A conviction pick on Trey Zuhn III at pick 213 that the board grades a round light. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick234 Rnd7 DeAndre Moore Jr.
Nice patience on DeAndre Moore Jr., who had no business lasting to No. 234. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
