Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall A-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesA+ FutureA+
The Steelers cashed the board's mistake on Allar: A-.

Call it larceny. Drew Allar sat on the board until pick No. 197, and the Steelers did not need to be asked twice. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.

The cost of the White reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while edge rusher and running back went begging.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

It is a haul that will look even better come September.

Pick Analysis
Pick44 Rnd2 Trevor Goosby
Trevor Goosby at slot 44 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick64 Rnd2 Elijah Sarratt
The board had Elijah Sarratt higher than Round 2, Pick 32, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick81 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy in pick No. 81 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick84 Rnd3 Brian Parker II
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Brian Parker II at offensive lineman with edge rusher and running back open.
Pick88 Rnd3 Colton Hood
Circle this one: Colton Hood at the 88th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick96 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick99 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
They let Malachi Fields come to them and pounced at pick 99. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick103 Rnd4 Jack Endries
Jack Endries at the 103rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick133 Rnd4 Bray Hubbard
A straight-up fair deal on Bray Hubbard at the 133rd pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick138 Rnd4 Logan Jones
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 4, Pick 38 on Logan Jones with edge rusher and running back unsolved.
Pick148 Rnd5 Kage Casey
Kage Casey in pick 148 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick151 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
By-the-book stuff, Jacob Rodriguez at slot 151 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick157 Rnd5 Aaron Graves
They paid a round early for Aaron Graves in pick No. 157, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick166 Rnd5 Bryce Boettcher
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bryce Boettcher. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick174 Rnd5 Lee Hunter
A wild overpay on Lee Hunter in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick175 Rnd5 Bud Clark
Bud Clark at the 175th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick197 Rnd6 Drew Allar
Taking Drew Allar in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick206 Rnd6 DeAndre Moore Jr.
DeAndre Moore Jr. at the 206th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick213 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in pick No. 213 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jerry Wilson
They went early on Jerry Wilson in No. 224, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick234 Rnd7 Jordan White
Value said wait; Jordan White in pick 234 says they were not listening. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
