Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Vikings.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Vikings took Jalon Daniels a full 70 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Kilgore pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher and interior defensive lineman. Bisontis falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Jermod McCoy
In No. 18 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value.
Pick50 Rnd2 Kevin Concepcion
They did well to land Kevin Concepcion in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick82 Rnd3 Jalon Kilgore
A curious use of the 82nd pick. Edge rusher and interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a cornerback in Jalon Kilgore did not.
Pick97 Rnd3 Jalon Daniels
A wild overpay on Jalon Daniels in pick 97, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick118 Rnd4 Chase Bisontis
A quiet steal in pick No. 118: Chase Bisontis for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick157 Rnd5 Jonah Coleman
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jonah Coleman in slot 157. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick173 Rnd5 Khalil Barnes
They took Khalil Barnes at par in slot 173, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick196 Rnd6 Brett Norfleet
A straight-up fair deal on Brett Norfleet at the 196th pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick208 Rnd6 Jordan White
No drama and no debate, Jordan White went about where he belonged in pick No. 208. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick231 Rnd7 Tony Grimes
By-the-book stuff, Tony Grimes at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
