Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Texans never addressed edge rusher, and it is the kind of gap that lingers.
The Rashada reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Eric Singleton Jr.
In pick 20 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick52
Rnd2
Germie Bernard
Germie Bernard at slot 52 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick56
Rnd2
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers at pick No. 56 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick65
Rnd3
Caleb Lomu
They took Caleb Lomu at par in the 65th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick120
Rnd4
Bray Hubbard
They paid sticker price for Bray Hubbard in No. 120, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick124
Rnd4
Darius Taylor
Darius Taylor in the 124th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick233
Rnd7
Jaden Rashada
They liked Jaden Rashada enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 7, Pick 17. A need, and now a little less of one.
