Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Steelers. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Barion Brown at the Round 4 slot is 52 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Rueben Bain Jr.
In slot 14 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick46
Rnd2
Blake Miller
Blake Miller at the 46th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick73
Rnd3
Drayk Bowen
Drayk Bowen in No. 73 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick78
Rnd3
Jalon Kilgore
A straight-up fair deal on Jalon Kilgore at Round 3, Pick 14, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick98
Rnd3
Amare Campbell
No edge and no loss on Amare Campbell in pick No. 98; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick114
Rnd4
Nic Anderson
Nic Anderson at pick 114 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick133
Rnd4
Barion Brown
They reached a country mile for Barion Brown at the 133rd pick, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
Pick153
Rnd5
Kalil Alexander
Good price on Kalil Alexander in pick No. 153, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick176
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa in the 176th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick192
Rnd6
Ricardo Hallman
By-the-book stuff, Ricardo Hallman at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick211
Rnd6
Avery Johnson
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Avery Johnson. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick227
Rnd7
TJ Metcalf
They paid sticker price for TJ Metcalf in slot 227, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
