FutureA
The Colts lost the trade table, and the C tells the story. The Colts did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and LaNorris Sellers fell into the 72nd pick. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
The cost of the Umanmielen reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
Michael Taaffe
By-the-book stuff, Michael Taaffe at slot 40 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick72
Rnd3
LaNorris Sellers
They robbed the room for LaNorris Sellers here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick108
Rnd4
Amare Campbell
Amare Campbell in slot 108 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick147
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Davison Igbinosun. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick149
Rnd5
Princewill Umanmielen
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Princewill Umanmielen. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick186
Rnd6
Barion Brown
Barion Brown at the 186th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick221
Rnd7
Dante Moore
They read the board right and Dante Moore was the payoff at pick 221. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jacobe Johnson
Jacobe Johnson in Round 7, Pick 31 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick249
Rnd7
Ethan Onianwa
Ethan Onianwa at pick No. 249 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
