FutureB+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the 49ers and Moore Jr.: B+. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The 49ers watched DeAndre Moore Jr. slide 60 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
If Zuhn III pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick60
Rnd2
Connor Lew
Connor Lew in the Round 2 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick92
Rnd3
Tacario Davis
A reach on Tacario Davis in Round 3, Pick 28; the board had better options right there. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick128
Rnd4
DeAndre Moore Jr.
They barely believed it either: DeAndre Moore Jr. still on the board at the 128th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick134
Rnd4
Trey Zuhn III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trey Zuhn III this early at the 134th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick137
Rnd4
Braylan Shelby
Braylan Shelby at pick 137 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick167
Rnd5
Deion Burks
Taking Deion Burks in No. 167 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick174
Rnd5
Desmond Reid
Somehow Desmond Reid was still sitting there in pick No. 174, and they pounced on premier running back value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick206
Rnd6
Aidan Chiles
Aidan Chiles at slot 206 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
