A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-.

Nobody else had Deion Burks anywhere near the 128th overall pick. The 49ers did, by 19 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. However the rest shakes out, Boettcher at that price is a win they earned. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

In pick No. 28 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. A clean fit for the roster.

By-the-book stuff, Eugene Wilson III at Round 2, Pick 28 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.

A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Gracen Halton. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.

Value said wait; Deion Burks in the 128th pick says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.

Darius Taylor slipping to the Round 4 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.

Bryce Boettcher at No. 137 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.

Nothing to complain about; Quintrevion Wisner went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.

Jalon Daniels at Round 5, Pick 36 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.

No edge and no loss on Fernando Carmona in pick 206; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.

Tosh Baker in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
