Grand theft in pick 214: the Lions steal Moore and grade out a B. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Dante Moore, the No. 7 name on the board, stolen at No. 214. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They will need Morgan to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Rueben Bain Jr.
They will replay Rueben Bain Jr. at No. 23 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick120
Rnd4
A.J. Haulcy
A safety of that caliber at pick 120 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick160
Rnd5
Semaj Morgan
Semaj Morgan in the 160th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick166
Rnd5
Pat Coogan
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Pat Coogan well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick176
Rnd5
Jacobe Johnson
Value said wait; Jacobe Johnson in pick No. 176 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick202
Rnd6
Daylen Everette
Daylen Everette in slot 202 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick214
Rnd6
Dante Moore
Dante Moore at the 214th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick223
Rnd7
Ahmaad Moses
Ahmaad Moses in Round 7, Pick 6 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
