Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB
The Steelers let Allar fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Drew Allar tumbling to the Steelers in slot 214 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Reaching for Hunter left real value on the table behind him.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Ioane pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher and tight end.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Gennings Dunker
In pick No. 25 they get a blindside protector. Need was not the driver here.
Pick55 Rnd2 Makai Lemon
They will replay Makai Lemon at slot 55 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick59 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
A want over a need in Round 2, Pick 27: Olaivavega Ioane adds an offensive lineman while edge rusher and tight end keeps waiting.
Pick77 Rnd3 Malik Muhammad
Malik Muhammad at the 77th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick78 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe at pick 78 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick89 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
They took Malachi Fields at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick99 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in No. 99 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick115 Rnd4 Austin Siereveld
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 115th overall pick on Austin Siereveld with edge rusher and tight end unsolved.
Pick117 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at pick 117 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Pick135 Rnd4 Bray Hubbard
Bray Hubbard in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick139 Rnd4 Logan Jones
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Logan Jones at offensive lineman with edge rusher and tight end open.
Pick144 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez in the 144th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick146 Rnd5 Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price in the 146th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick154 Rnd5 Jyaire Hill
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jyaire Hill in slot 154. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick163 Rnd5 Bryce Boettcher
Bryce Boettcher at No. 163 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick165 Rnd5 Kage Casey
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 25 with a little surplus value in Kage Casey. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick175 Rnd5 Rayshaun Benny
They reached into another round for Rayshaun Benny, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick178 Rnd5 Lee Hunter
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Lee Hunter well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick179 Rnd5 Bud Clark
This one needs a full-page explanation: Bud Clark in the 179th overall pick, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick214 Rnd6 Drew Allar
Circle this one: Drew Allar at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick218 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
A conviction pick on Trey Zuhn III at pick 218 that the board grades a round light. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick231 Rnd7 DJ Harvey
The board had DJ Harvey higher than slot 231, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
