Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C
ValueB- NeedB- TradesF FutureA-
The Steelers bled value on every deal, hence the C.

The Steelers bet big and early on Rayshaun Benny, 31 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. A mixed bag that lands at C.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

The Terrell steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Hit on Avieon Terrell and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Avieon Terrell
In pick 30 they get a potential shutdown corner, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick52 Rnd2 Trevor Goosby
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trevor Goosby. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick76 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe slid further than he should have, and the 76th pick is lovely value for the safety. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick83 Rnd3 Brian Parker II
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Brian Parker II in pick No. 83 leaves quarterback, edge rusher and other spots for later.
Pick91 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
Malachi Fields in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick99 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds at the 99th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick121 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at the 121st pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick140 Rnd4 Logan Jones
A curious use of pick 140. Quarterback, edge rusher and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Logan Jones did not.
Pick145 Rnd5 Bray Hubbard
Bray Hubbard in slot 145 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick148 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
A reach on Jacob Rodriguez in Round 5, Pick 8; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
Pick160 Rnd5 Eric Rivers
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Eric Rivers at pick No. 160 is the proof. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick164 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell in No. 164 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick165 Rnd5 Bryce Boettcher
They paid up for Bryce Boettcher at the Round 5 slot when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick167 Rnd5 Rayshaun Benny
A big swing on Rayshaun Benny at the 167th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174 Rnd5 Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter at pick No. 174 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick175 Rnd5 Bud Clark
They reached a country mile for Bud Clark at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick212 Rnd6 Dane Key
A slide stopped in slot 212, with Dane Key worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick213 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 213th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick218 Rnd7 DJ Harvey
They paid sticker price for DJ Harvey in pick 218, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
