FutureB
Nobody dealt better than the Dolphins this weekend: B+. The Malachi Lawrence selection is the head-turner. The Dolphins reached 56 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will answer for taking cornerback early while interior defensive lineman and linebacker went begging.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Johnson. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In pick No. 11 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value.
Pick63
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman and linebacker still to address, they spent the 63rd pick on D'Angelo Ponds, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick75
Rnd3
Trinidad Chambliss
Value said wait; Trinidad Chambliss in the 75th overall pick says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick87
Rnd3
Malachi Lawrence
Malachi Lawrence at the Round 3 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick91
Rnd3
Skyler Bell
Skyler Bell in Round 3, Pick 27 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick97
Rnd3
Caden Curry
They went early on Caden Curry in slot 97, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
A real head-scratcher, Jaeden Roberts in Round 3, Pick 35 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick111
Rnd4
Emmett Johnson
Emmett Johnson at the 111th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick125
Rnd4
Michael Trigg
A reasonable price with a little left over, Michael Trigg in slot 125. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick149
Rnd5
Ted Hurst
No edge and no loss on Ted Hurst in No. 149; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick166
Rnd5
Nadame Tucker
Nadame Tucker at the 166th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jalon Daniels
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jalon Daniels in the Round 6 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick227
Rnd7
Ahmaad Moses
Ahmaad Moses in pick 227 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
