The phones sank the Dolphins this weekend: B-. Nobody had Kalil Alexander this high, and it is not close. The Dolphins reached 68 spots to get him at the Round 7 slot. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In No. 27 they get a building block for the line, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick30
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In the 30th overall pick they get a seam-stretching tight end at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
Elijah Sarratt
This one needs a full-page explanation: Elijah Sarratt in the Round 2 slot, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75
Rnd3
Skyler Bell
Skyler Bell in Round 3, Pick 11 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick87
Rnd3
Caden Curry
Caden Curry in pick 87 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick108
Rnd4
Kaleb Proctor
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kaleb Proctor. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick120
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore slipping to the 120th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick151
Rnd5
Isaiah World
Isaiah World at Round 5, Pick 11 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick154
Rnd5
Hezekiah Masses
Hezekiah Masses slid further than he should have, and No. 154 is lovely value for the cornerback. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick227
Rnd7
Kalil Alexander
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kalil Alexander well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick238
Rnd7
Deven Eastern
Deven Eastern at pick No. 238 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick246
Rnd7
Jack Kelly
Jack Kelly at the 246th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick255
Rnd7
Adam Randall
Adam Randall at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
