Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB- TradesA FutureA+
Nothing loud, just a tidy B+ for the Dolphins.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Dolphins reached some 47 spots for Malachi Lawrence, and value like that does not grow back.

With wide receiver, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hunter.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Mansoor Delane
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside. More want than need.
Pick43 Rnd2 Chris Johnson
A curious use of slot 43. Wide receiver, tight end and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Chris Johnson did not.
Pick75 Rnd3 Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter slid further than he should have, and pick 75 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick90 Rnd3 Malachi Lawrence
A wild overpay on Malachi Lawrence in the 90th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick111 Rnd4 Jaeden Roberts
A straight-up fair deal on Jaeden Roberts at Round 4, Pick 11, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick160 Rnd5 Sawyer Robertson
Sawyer Robertson in pick No. 160 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick227 Rnd7 Ahmaad Moses
Ahmaad Moses in the 227th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
