Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall A-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureA
The Dolphins turned the phones into found money: A-.

The Malachi Lawrence selection is the head-turner. The Dolphins reached 36 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. However the rest shakes out, Cooper Jr. at that price is a win they earned.

Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Kenyon Sadiq
In slot 30 they get a mismatch in the passing game, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Elijah Sarratt
They went early on Elijah Sarratt in pick 43, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick75 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Omar Cooper Jr. at the 75th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick87 Rnd3 Michael Trigg
They paid a round early for Michael Trigg in the 87th pick, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick90 Rnd3 Justin Joly
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Justin Joly well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick111 Rnd4 Malachi Lawrence
Malachi Lawrence in the Round 4 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick150 Rnd5 J'Mari Taylor
J'Mari Taylor at slot 150 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick208 Rnd6 Zxavian Harris
Zxavian Harris in the 208th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick227 Rnd7 Cole Payton
Cole Payton at Round 7, Pick 11 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick250 Rnd7 Nick Barrett
A reach on Nick Barrett in the Round 7 slot; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
