Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall C
ValueC NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Dolphins got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Dolphins took Ahmaad Moses at the 251st overall pick, roughly 39 spots before his name belonged.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Job largely done: quarterback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.

Pick Analysis
Pick43 Rnd2 Chris Johnson
Good price on Chris Johnson in the 43rd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick75 Rnd3 Caden Curry
Caden Curry at Round 3, Pick 11 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick87 Rnd3 Skyler Bell
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Skyler Bell. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick90 Rnd3 Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at No. 90 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick111 Rnd4 Malachi Lawrence
They reached into another round for Malachi Lawrence, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick149 Rnd5 J'Mari Taylor
They paid sticker price for J'Mari Taylor in the 149th overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick197 Rnd6 Sawyer Robertson
By-the-book stuff, Sawyer Robertson at pick No. 197 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick227 Rnd7 Cole Payton
They jumped the gun on Cole Payton, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick251 Rnd7 Ahmaad Moses
A big swing on Ahmaad Moses at the 251st overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A minor itch, scratched.
