Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall

FutureB-
The Cowboys checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. Priorities are a choice, and the Cowboys made a strange one, taking Caleb Banks at edge rusher in the 24th pick with wide receiver, tight end and other spots crying out for the pick instead. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. On value alone, Lawson makes the weekend a net positive.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
David Bailey
In slot 22 they get a double-digit-sack hope, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
Pick24
Rnd1
Caleb Banks
A surprising call. With wide receiver, tight end and other spots still to address, they spent the Round 1 slot on Caleb Banks, an edge rusher they were not short of.
Pick55
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Fair-plus on Sonny Styles, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick86
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Deontae Lawson at the 86th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick114
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson in No. 114 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick154
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
They took Max Iheanachor at par in the 154th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick176
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
No drama and no debate, Xavier Nwankpa went about where he belonged in pick 176. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick202
Rnd6
Makhi Hughes
Makhi Hughes at slot 202 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick219
Rnd7
Malachi Nelson
No edge and no loss on Malachi Nelson in pick No. 219; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick231
Rnd7
Jordan Castell
Jordan Castell at pick No. 231 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
