Cardkillah DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

FutureA-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Patriots: B-. The Patriots put a flag in the ground for Patrick Payton, 31 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Easter. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick47
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 15 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick62
Rnd2
Germie Bernard
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Germie Bernard. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick118
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
No edge and no loss on Monroe Freeling in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick130
Rnd4
Bray Hubbard
They took Bray Hubbard at par in the 130th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick169
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol in slot 169 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
Pick170
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
Aamil Wagner in pick 170 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick195
Rnd6
Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton at slot 195 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick215
Rnd7
DeAndre Moore Jr.
DeAndre Moore Jr. at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick243
Rnd7
Fernando Carmona
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Fernando Carmona well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick244
Rnd7
Alex Birchmeier
Alex Birchmeier in No. 244 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick246
Rnd7
Shamar Easter
Value with a capital V on Shamar Easter in Round 7, Pick 32, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick249
Rnd7
Barion Brown
Barion Brown at pick No. 249 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
