Christeca DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the 49ers a B-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The 49ers reached some 48 spots for Zxavian Harris, and value like that does not grow back. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Kilgore. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
They read the board right and Kenyon Sadiq was the payoff at the Round 1 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick58
Rnd2
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in Round 2, Pick 26 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick92
Rnd3
Taurean York
Taurean York at slot 92 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
They let Jalon Kilgore come to them and pounced at No. 127. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick133
Rnd4
Billy Schrauth
No drama and no debate, Billy Schrauth went about where he belonged in the 133rd overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138
Rnd4
Isaiah World
Isaiah World at the 138th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick171
Rnd5
Zxavian Harris
A wild overpay on Zxavian Harris in pick No. 171, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
