The Saints land in the muddy middle: C.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Saints spent Round 2, Pick 10 on Jordan White, a name most had 215 spots down the list. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.

However the rest shakes out, Johnson at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Hit on Jake Slaughter and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Jake Slaughter
A wild overpay on Jake Slaughter in pick 8, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick42 Rnd2 Jordan White
Jordan White at Round 2, Pick 10 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick73 Rnd3 Jerry Wilson
Jerry Wilson at the 73rd overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick132 Rnd4 Domonique Orange
Somehow Domonique Orange was still sitting there in slot 132, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick136 Rnd4 Derrick Moore
You do not let an edge rusher like Derrick Moore reach No. 136 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick148 Rnd5 Zane Durant
A real head-scratcher, Zane Durant in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick170 Rnd5 Damari Brown
This one needs a full-page explanation: Damari Brown in the Round 5 slot, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick188 Rnd6 Emmett Johnson
The board fumbled Emmett Johnson all the way to No. 188, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
