Draft Grade — Rams

The jury is out on the Rams. For now, C. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Rams shredded theirs for Matthew Sluka. He came off 168 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Kanak. The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Hit on Josiah Trotter and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Josiah Trotter
In the 13th overall pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, though the board says they badly overpaid. More want than need.
Pick29
Rnd1
Connor Lew
In No. 29 they get a building block for the line, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick61
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
They read the board right and A.J. Haulcy was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 29. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick93
Rnd3
Davison Igbinosun
A real head-scratcher, Davison Igbinosun in the Round 3 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick167
Rnd5
Marcus Allen
Value said wait; Marcus Allen in pick 167 says they were not listening. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick205
Rnd6
Preston Stone
Preston Stone at pick No. 205 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick208
Rnd6
Matthew Sluka
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Matthew Sluka well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick232
Rnd7
Jaren Kanak
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Jaren Kanak in No. 232, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick250
Rnd7
Cormani McClain
A wild overpay on Cormani McClain in pick 250, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick256
Rnd7
Malcolm Greene
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Malcolm Greene. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
